On the 4th and last day of the Eastern Zone Swimming Championships Angela Zhu breaks another team record. She finished 4th with a best time of 31.25 in the 10 and under 50 free. Benjamin Selnick finished 12th in the same event taking off almost 1 second with a time of 26.71. Trey Perry (14) and Matthan Martir (15) also swam the 50 free. Trey finished 11th swimming a best time of 26.54 and Matthan was 27th swimming a time of 26.71. | |

Three for Three..... Three days and three wins for Retriever swimmers at the Eastern Zone Championships. Today was the third day of the four day meet and it was highlighted by Chas Brother winning the 15-18 200 Breast with a best time of 2:30.80. Philip Adejumo took off 3.5 seconds in the 100 bk swimming a time of 1:13.97. Mathan Martir finished 10th in the 15-18 100 bk swimming a best time of 1:04.65. Alissa Ling finished 15th swimming a time of 4:45.07 in the 400 free. Angela Zhu finished 8th in the 50 bk with a time of 37.08. | |

A crazy day of power outages and traffic jams at the 2010 Eastern Zone Championships leads to Retriever swimmers second win. Angela Zhu showed up to the pool this morning to see that the power was out and the pool was closed. She had to wait for hours before she took the 50 fly at the 13 and over pool this afternoon. Angela (10) swam under adverse conditions to win in a time of 33.65. Alissa also swam today and finding her pool to not have power as well for over 30 minutes today. She finished 10th with a time of 2:14.64 in the 200 free. Due to the outages the meet will be timed finals tomorrow. | |

BREAKING NEWS.... Chas Brother WINS the 100 breast; Angela Zhu Finishes Second in the 100 fly Breaking the Team Record. After day one of the 2010 LC Eastern Zone Swimming Championships the Retriever swimmers are off to a great start. Chas Brother won the 15 and over 100 Breast with a time of 1:09.5. Angela Zhu took over 2 seconds off her 100 fly time to finish second just 7 one hundreths out of first in the 10 and under event. Her time of 1:12.89 is a new team record. Angela also swim the 10 and under 100 free taking off 1.2 seconds with a time of 1:09.67. Ben Selnick finished 30th in the 50 breast taking off .5 seconds swimming a time of 44.57. Ben also swam the 15th place 400 free relay on the second leg of the race. Alissa Ling finished 12th in the 13 and 14 100 free swimming a time of 1:02.59. She swam the 100 free again on the 400 free relay tonight going 1:02.0. Two Retrievers swam the 13 and 14 100 free Trey Perry took off 3 seconds finishing 28th in a time of 1:00.10; Philip Adejumo finished 51st taking off over 1.5 seconds with a time of 1:02.59. Mathan Martir was 35th taking off almost 1 second swimming a time of 58.72. Sixteen Swims fall In The Top 24. From July 30th to Aug 2, 2010 The Retriever Aquatic Club sent eleven swimmers to Boston to swim in the New England Senior Championships. They went up to the meet and made us proud. Ariana Bernstein had three swims in finals and took off over 7 seconds over the weekend. She won the bronze medal in the 100 Bk swimming a time 1:07.35. Clarice Daniel took off almost 30 seconds over the weekend. She finished 21st in the 400 free. Elizabeth Hunter had an amazing weekend finishing 15th in her last event of the weekend the 200 breast in a time of 2:53.18. Alissa Ling had a great experience. On the last day she finished up with an excellent swim in the 800 free taking off almost 5 seconds and finishing 13th. Caitlin Magaw unfortunately was feeling a little under the weather at this meet. She showed the spirit of sport by swimming her events and coming close to her best times. Andrew Mckissick had the meet of his life taking off over 40 seconds over the weekend. He finished 11th in the in the 1500 free. Catharine Shipps had a great meets as well. She took off time in three events the 200 free, 400 free and 50 free. Ethan Smith also took off over 20 seconds over the weekend where he finished 18th in the 200 breast while taking off over 16 seconds. Matt Walls won the 200 Backstroke swimming a time of 2:11.27 while taking off over 4 seconds. Brennan Wolter took off over 25 seconds during the meet. He finished 19th in 1500 free where he took off over 23 seconds in the event. Drew Wolter swam a best time in his 400 free and had a great weekend. He also swam the 800, 200 and 1500 free. | |

We are pleased to announce our newest member of our staff Ryan Sheatsley. Ryan started swimming when he was 6 and has been competing and/or coaching ever since. During high school, Ryan swam for Parkland High School in Allentown, PA where he won numerous state medals and All-American accolades. This includes leading the team to back-to-back state runner-up finishes. He is still the current Parkland High School record holder for the 200 IM. For college, Ryan attended the University of Rhode Island on athletic and academic scholarships. He won three Most Outstanding Swimmer Awards and two High Point awards while there. He still holds school records in the 400 IM, 200 Fly, and numerous relays. He graduated in 2008 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ryan has coaching experience at Parkland Aquatic Club and various summer swim teams in the Allentown area. His previous 2 years were spent at Albright Aquatic Club in Reading, PA, where he worked with all ages ranging from 8 & unders to the senior group. Ryan moved to Baltimore this past spring and works at RMF Engineering, located nearby at Research Park on the UMBC Campus. In welcoming Ryan to our staff I am also proud to say that our current staff will all be returning in the fall. More details on our staff will be provided in the near future. We also wish Coach Abigail the best over the next month as we wait to hear about the new arrival. | |

Breaking News....... Angela Zhu Breaks Maryland Swimming's Area and Resident Record. After day 2 of the 2010 RAC/ASC Long Course Invite the Retrievers swimmers have had a great weekend so far. The second day of swimming was highlighted with Angela Zhu breaking the Retriever Aquatic Club, and both Maryland Swimming's area and resident records in the 50 Fly. Angela's time of 31.53 betters the records set by Abigail Iler (32.07-resident) from NAAC in 1997 and Kensey Morris (31.63-Area) from AD and a past Retriever swimmer set in 1998. We are proud of you Angela. | |

Retriever Aquatic Club Breaking News...... Matt Walls wins 1.1 mile swim Coach Molly swim the bay with a total of 597 swimmers who finished the swim. This morning was the day of the annual Great Chesapeake Bay swim. They host a 4.4 mile swim and a 1.1 mile swim the proceeds from the day go to the March of Dimes. We had 8 of our own swimmers swim the 1 mile swim and the results were great!! There were 383 total swimmers competing today. We congratulate all of our swimmers on doing so well today! We congratulate our 4.4 mile coach!! Molly Bolek finished 91st which was 8 places better than last year. She was 4th in her age group and her time of 1 hour 51min and 17 seconds was over 10 minutes faster than last year. We are proud of our 1 mile swimmers!! Matt Walls took the swim this year in a winning time of 19min 28sec almost five minutes faster than last year. Andrew McKissick took third and FIRST in his age group with a time of 20:01. Joseph Laciny was sixth over all and THIRD in his age group his time of 21.15 was almost seven minutes faster than last year. Joseph�s brother Aaron Laciny was 93rd and 4th in his age group with a time of 26.52. Jacob Walls who is Matts brother swam over 4 minutes faster than last year finishing 109th and 6th is his age group (27.25). Aaron Jacobson was almost nine minutes faster than last year finishing in a time of 29.42 and was 8th in his age group. Veronica Tis (37.50) who is ten years old and Rachel Laciny (37.51) nine finished 8th and 9th respectively in their age groups. We are very proud of our swimmers. | |

Please NOTE: Workers of these 2 sessions they will need to report 15 minutes earlier for the morning session eg. Timers: (by 7:15am) and 30 minutes earlier for the afternoon session (by 12:30pm). Saturday 12 & U 400/open 1500 Free: Warm-up will start immediately following Saturday afternoon session, (approx 3:45pm) - Session will start 30 following the start of warm-ups. To Parents of Age Group Gold (Devin's Group) and Age Group White A (Nancy's Group), due to coaching limitations during the State Meet, next week only, Nancy and Devin's practice days will be switched on Thursday and Friday, March 4 and 5. Age Group White A will move practice from Thursday March 4th to Friday March 5th. The practice time will remain unchanged. GBSA IMPORTANT CHANGES
Due to inclement weather and the closing of the CCBC-Catonsville campus on Friday, February 12th, the Friday night session of the GBSA Last Chance Qualifier meet will now be held on the evening of Saturday, February 13th at the conclusion of the Saturday afternoon session. Warmups for the Saturday evening session begin at 4:35pm and the meet will start at 5:30pmPRACTICES At this time it looks like UMBC might run on a regular schedule tomorrow...So guess what so will we. Friday all practice will run as scheduled. We will be tight but we would like all Age group Gold swimmers to come at 3:45 -6:00pm too. Saturday practice will run as scheduled please check schedule on practices page of racswim.org. Sunday all senior swimmers not in the GBSA meet will have practice 4:00-6:00pm. Monday is a regular day for UMBC and all practice will run as scheduled. |
